All comedy. Some thought
Briony performs solo sketch comedy in the phi-fi genre (philosophy fiction). Redman isn't so much a glass half full kind of person as a "Hey, look at that glass. It's got something in it!" kind of person. Her comedy provides story-telling and characters from a writer shortlisted for the BAFTA Rocliffe Comedy Script and one half of double act Surname & Surname. Briony improvises regularly with the Free Association – the UK's 'equivalent to the professionalised improv of Chicago's Second City or UCB' (FestMag.co.uk) and guests with five-star This is Your Trial (The Mirror) and Chortle award-winning Austentatious. Below are details of her previous solo shows:
Briony Redman: Sketch Artist, The Pleasance Courtyard, Edfringe 2018. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Unless you're driving. Comedy with alien invasions, military zumba, an attempted murder mystery? Stories, sketch and a who-almost-dunnit.
“Briony Redman can always be relied on for a great Fringe hour. Her clever but fun one-women sketches would be perfect for their own Radio 4 show. Until that happens, enjoy her here.” British Comedy Guide.
“The Shyamalan like twists on a well-constructed narrative” Funny Women
"Funny, brilliant and absolutely captivating on stage" The Croydonist
Briony Redman: Theory of Positivity, The Pleasance Courtyard, Edfringe 2017. A political thriller searching for pre-truths. A rom-com that asks: when does romance stop and harassment start? A monster movie from the monster's point of view. Three stories. One ending. Are you a positive person? Then you'll love this show. Are you a negative person? Then I doubt you'll have read this far. "A unique & riotous series of interwoven sketches" **** Fringe Biscuit. "A talent and well worth spending an hour of your time with" **** DarkChat
Briony Redman: Secret Show, The Pleasance Courtyard, Edfringe 2016. Shh, it's a surprise. A wrapped parcel of comedy, sketches and storytelling. Some secrets will be told and others will be kept. There will also be a very special guest star! A comedy show from one half of double act, Surname & Surname: “inventive, scrappy, proper Fringe fun” The Times; “a sketch show worthy of selling out” **** Three Weeks; From the pen and mind that brought you Farce Noir: The Big Sheep, "Cracking script...Joyously daft" ****TheList.
“This one-woman sketch comedy show is as good as anything you can catch at the Fringe” ***** Winner of Darkchat Best Comedy Award 2016
“Bubbling over with enthusiasm... Effortlessly feel-good” The Skinny
"The best comedy performance we’d seen all year" The Croydonist
What occurs once in a minute, twice in a moment but never in a thousand years? It happens three times in mmmn, while you think about it.
Double Acts
Briony has also performed as one half of double act Surname & Surname with Paul Foxcroft (“Inventive, pop-cultural sketches and the vibrant, articulate sense of mischief of the writer-performers… inventive, scrappy, proper Fringe fun” The Times) and Bronya & Siony with Sonya Vine (“very funny” Guardian Guide)
